Dave and Dana Floyd

Dave Floyd

Who is Dave Floyd to Mellomar? Dave was the golfing buddy of Brian, the golf pro and operations at Mellomar.  Dave and Brian both were Amateur Boxers for the South Atlantic and Patomac Valley boxing conferences. We met in 1993 scheduled to fight for the South Atlantic Heavy Weight Championship.  Though it was a great fight Dave won.  Like most athletes in any competition we became friends outside of the ring when I reloacted to southerb maryland where Dave was from.  We continued our friendship over golf and the international veteran boxers association, ring 101 baltimore.  Dave and I were competitors and would often battle it out at Mellomar, loser would buy lunch.

Dave Floyd  2/11/68 - 6/22/24

David E. Floyd, 56, of Port Republic, Maryland. Beloved husband of Dana Floyd, loving father of Hunter (AJ) and Tristen, and adored “Papa "of Elliana. Beloved son of Dennis and Hannelore Floyd of Solomon’s Island, MD and brother of Carolyn Floyd (Jimmy), of Owings, MD and Wayne Floyd (Christine), of Leonardtown, MD. He is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends and acquaintances, not only from Maryland, but other areas in the U.S., as well as Germany.

Dave was born in 1968 in Ammersfort, Holland and moved to Maryland in 1969. He was a lifelong resident of Calvert County, having graduated from Northern High School in 1986. Dave had an extreme passion for fitness and boxing/kickboxing and was an accomplished bodybuilder. These endeavors were a defining part of his life, as evidenced through the many awards and acknowledgements he received throughout the years. In addition to his previous career in the tire and auto business, his former gym ownership, and his current sales career with Suburban Propane, Dave also practiced real estate locally for Keller Williams.

Dave was a faithful attendant of Chesapeake Church in Huntingtown, Maryland and served as part of Chesapeake’s security team. Dave’s faith was important to him, and anyone who knew him knew of his love for his Lord and Savior. Dave’s love for and his protection and adoration of his wife of 33 years, Dana, and their children, Hunter and Tristen, and his granddaughter, Elliana, was beyond evident. He was a larger than life presence, and that presence will be sorely missed by those who loved him so.

Dave was a Husband, Father, Friend who was a Champion Fighter, an overall Athlete, Car Guy and fun to be around. This award is dedicated to the Champion, who put in the work to be the best. Showed up every week and performed when it mattered. Respected the course, the competition and helped the ones around them to be better.

Recipients of this award scored the best, worked on their game and challenged their competition to be the best they could be. They played like a champion and are being rewarded for it.

Recipients of the Dave Floyd Award:

Nick Wilharm's season started off on top and never looked back. He was very consistent from the start. winning 9 of the 11 events.  His team play was encouraging and mentored junior players throughout the season. He has an even keeled demeanor about his play. Nick is already competing in the next level junior competitions. Nick's head down approach to his golf game came through. He is a competitor at heart but, understands how to be a good sport. He works hard on his game and hopefully one day we will see him put on a green jacket. (I SAID IT FIRST)

Congratulations to Nick on a great season. Skies the limit for this young man!
